LNOE Design Article #1
Hello and welcome to the first in a series of design articles about Last Night on Earth, The Zombie Game. Your first question is probably, "Who are you?". And that is a fair question.

LNOE Box Cover My name is Jason C. Hill and I'm the Lead Designer at Flying Frog Productions, LLC, a Seattle-based game company dedicated to quality and fun above all else. The most common thing I've been hearing lately is how excited people are about the game and how amazed people are that they had never heard anything about it until now (the phrase 'under the radar' comes to mind). Well, although Flying Frog is new on the scene, we have actually been around for quite a while
(1999). We have just been ramping up - designing, testing, and polishing. Although Last Night on Earth is the first game to be released, there are many more to come, waiting in the wings for their time to be given the extra love and attention needed to be sent out into the world. But enough about the Frog, you probably came here to read about Last Night on Earth...so let's get to it!

What is Last Night on Earth?
Last Night on Earth, The Zombie Game is a fusion of board game, card game, and miniature game all wrapped into one using the most exciting elements of each. It pits small town Heroes head-to-head against hordes of Zombies. The game allows players to take on the role of either the Heroes, working together to survive, or the Zombies, spreading over the town like a plague (there are always at least one player for each side).
"Last Night on Earth is a fusion of board game, card game, and miniature game all wrapped into one..."

Every element of the game is intended to be cinematic, allowing players to jump into the action of a Zombie movie. The eight unique Heroes are all based on horror movie arch-types like the small town sheriff or the hospital nurse, while the various scenarios for the game are like movie plots. The scenario you play determines the objectives and victory conditions for each side. The story naturally unfolds through gameplay as the Heroes perform daring feats and the Zombies run rampant over the town. Can Johnny the High School Quarterback fight his way into the hospital Morgue to blow up the Zombie Spawning Pit with Dynamite before being overwhelmed? It's a suicide mission, but somebody has to go, and maybe...just maybe he'll make it out alive.

My God, They've Taken The... Achieving the Look and Feel
To push the cinematic nature of the game, all of the artwork is done photographically using actors and models as the Heroes and Zombies. As with all Flying Frog games, Last Night on Earth also comes with a CD Soundtrack of original music to listen to while playing the game. This helps to seep into the players' subconscious and put them a little on edge, making the game more exciting. The way the game unfolds is also designed to create movie-like moments and encourage memorable and dramatic situations.

Expandability
Though Last Night on Earth, The Zombie Game is a stand alone game, like all of our games, it is intended to be infinitely expandable.

We are committed to continued long-term support for our games with Web Content, Expansions, Up-to-date FAQs, Contests, Events, and anything else we can think of to support the game and its community. The first expansion for the game, Growing Hunger, is scheduled for release in Spring '08 and before then we will feature new material on the web site, so keep checking back for new content.
Heroic Resolve

Well, that wraps up the introduction. Next time, we'll take a look at the basic breakdown of the Gameplay and explore the difference between the Basic Game and the Advanced Game. See you then!
